EU-CHINA TRADE DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Love against all expectations !

Politicians and the media are not very nice to China in Europe, especially in Western Europe. Still, the business arena is doing very well ! What a contrast, in the midst of a covid pandemic! And we are not basing ourselves on the Chinese media, but on Eurostat data. One could not doubt their objectivity.

Data released by Eurostat on August 13 show that under the new crown epidemic, EU-China economic and trade cooperation has maintained strong resilience. In the first half of this year, China continued to maintain its status as the EU’s largest trading partner.

Data show that in the first half of this year, EU goods trade exports amounted to 1048,9 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 13.8%; imports amounted to 964.5 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 13.9%. Among them, the EU exported 112.6 billion euros to China, a year-on-year increase of 20.2%; imports from China 210.1 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 15.5%.

The data also shows that in June, the EU’s trade exports of goods were 188.3 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 22.3%; imports were 173.5 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 29.6%. In the same period, the export value of goods trade in the Eurozone was 209.9 billion euros, an increase of 23.8% year-on-year; the import value was 191.8 billion euros, an increase of 28.2% year-on-year.

Since 2020, trade in goods between the EU and China will grow in both directions despite the epidemic. For the first time, China has replaced the United States as the EU’s largest trading partner as exporter.
